Interpreting

simultaneous

A seamless dance of languages, bridging the gap in live events, in real time, with no interruptions. Thrilling, precise, and always on point. Dedicated equipment required.

Equipment: Interpreters use headphones, microphones, and soundproof booths. This setup ensures they can hear clearly and speak without external interruptions.

Mental Speed: The interpreter needs to process information almost instantaneously. This requires tremendous mental agility to capture and translate simultaneously.

Voice Control: The voice must be clear and consistent. Maintaining a stable tone of voice while translating is essential for the audience to understand perfectly.

Focus and Concentration: There can be no distractions. The interpreter must be fully focused to capture nuances and details of the original speech.

Mastery of Terminology: Deep knowledge of the specific vocabulary for each area is vital. Interpreters often conduct prior research on the event’s topic to ensure accuracy.

consecutive

In this format, speaker and translator take turns at each segment of the message, thereby doubling the length of the presentation. No equipment is required. An outdated format compared to today’s advanced resources.

in person

A conventional setup in which interpreters are physically present at the event venue, utilizing the complete infrastructure of on-site equipment.

Subtitling

Who says work can’t be entertaining?  Subtitling is both a challenge and a delight. It’s hard not to get caught up in the storyline, and along the way, we often end up biting our nails to find out the ending.

Translating and ‘binge-watching’

In 25 years of subtitling experience, I have translated over 2,500 titles, including both feature films and series episodes. My work with leading studios and networks allowed me to ride the cable TV boom in Brazil, followed by the DVD surge, and currently, the major streaming services.

The Boom of Cable TV in Brazil

If you’re a fan of movies and such, and you rely on subtitles to keep up with the dialogue, chances are you’ve seen my work on TV or in the cinema. Just check the credits at the end to find out!

Confidentiality in translation?

There are a variety of titles showcasing my work available on leading streaming platforms.

Bio

early 80’s

a translator is born

My first challenge involving two different languages in a real-life communication setting happened in an exchange student program in the United States, where I spent a year. Seeds planted then yielded results not too distant from that time.

education and experience

Back to Brazil, I earned my degree from the University of São Paulo’s Psychology Institute, and worked as a Psychologist in a private practice for a few years. Eventually, I felt the urge to enhance my experience abroad and went back to the US, where I spent an additional seven years.
